Cricket -> ODI Series -> Tri series (IND-BANG-RSA) -> Report

Gambhir confident of batting at any position
Wednesday, April 2 2003 20:58 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Despite his special liking for the opener's slot, Gautam Gambhir, who was on Wednesday named in the Indian squad for the cricket tri-series in Dhaka, said he was ready to bat at any position in the larger interest of the team. "I can bat at any position. I am confident of handling the pressure, no matter whether I come at the top of the order or in the middle," the left-handed batsman from Delhi told over phone from Bangalore after being picked to tour Dhaka for the tournament starting on April 11.

Inthe absence of Sachin Tendulkar, who opted out due to an injury, skipper Saurav Ganguly is likely to partner Virender Sehwag at the top with Gambhir, who had a prolific outing for India 'A' in the Carib Beer series in West Indies, likely to come down the order.

Gambhir said getting the chance to play for the country is the ultimate aim of every cricketer and he would try to make the most of the opportunity given by the selectors. "I am really happy as this is a dream come true for me. I was trying hard to get a place in the team and this is a big reward.
