Mark Waugh joins twin Steve, Border in 8,000-run club

Bangalore: Mark Edward Waugh became the 3rd Australian after Allan Border and his twin brother Steve Waugh to join the select band of those cricketers who have amassed 8000 or more runs in Tests.

He accomplished this feat when he reached 51 in his score of 55 on the first day of the first Test against Pakistan in the neutral venue at Colombo on 03.10.2002.

This was his 126th Test and 206th innings. By achieving this feat he also became only the second player in the world after Sachin Tendulkar to score 8,000 or more runs in both versions of the game viz., Test as well as Limited Over Internationals.

Waugh is a right-handed batsman and also bowls off spin having taken 59 wickets @ 39.47. Born on 02.06.1965 Mark Waugh made his debut in the 4th Test at Adelaide against traditional rivals England in 1990-91 and immediately attained fame by notching up a century in his debut innings.

Waugh is also a brilliant slip fielder and holds the world record in fielding for most catches in a Test career.
