Zimbabwe are still short of Test match practice and don't you think that now you should start playing longer series?

Yes, when I started playing there were only one and two Test series. Now it would be nice to play three or four Test series so that we can pick up in the series. Players too would be more comfortable to play a longer series as they will have more opportunities. Hopefully in the coming couple of years we will start playing three or four Test match series

Do you subscribe to the view that Zimbabwe do not have a genuine match-winner in the side?

If you are talking about the players like Sachin, Klusener and Chris Cairns then I think we don't have one. But we do have quality performers in Flower brothers - Andy and Grant - who have been performing exceedingly well over the years. We also do have Heath Streak, Paul Strang and couple of others, who can easily turn a match around.

Earlier this year, you stepped down from the captaincy and there was bit of mystery about it?

No, I just resigned. I was feeling some pressure after the World Cup and the strain was telling on me. My family too was concerned about my strain. Besides that was the period when Zimbabwe were not winning too many matches and my own batting form was on the decline. So I thought that I needed a break and I think it helped me a lot as I have regained my form. I played very well in England earlier this year. So that's it.

You must be happy that you were one of the best captains of Zimbabwe?

All I would say is that I was given the captaincy at a difficult time and circumstances. The first phase was not easy. But, after that we defeated Pakistan in Pakistan, we defeated India at home in a one-off Test, performed well in Sharjah, reached the final there and followed with a good show in the World Cup in England. I am really happy to be associated with all these laurels as captain and I really enjoyed my captaincy.

Are Zimbabwean cricketers paid handsomely?

Obviously not as much as other nations pay, but that is quite understandable. We are getting better and better. Now that cricket is more globalised and sponsors are coming, it is really better now.

It is said that Zimbabwe cricket is in crisis and you did have as many as four coaches in very a short period. As a senior player don't you feel or experience some difficulty in listening to different advises changing tactics so often?

It does, yes it does. I think we had four coaches in the period of six months only and we played under Andy and now Heath. I think that's totally ridiculous. I mean every coach and captain have their own strategy. Both, the coach and captain should be named for a longer period. I remember when I was the captain, Houghton was the coach and we were there for three years. We also had failures but when we settled into our strategies, we achieved good results also.

What about your best performances so far?

I don't bother about my individual game. I really was very happy when we defeated South Africa in the last World Cup. That is one of the high points of my life and personally that match was not a good one for me as I was out to Allan Donald for no score. But it was a fantastic win and helped us to reach the Super 6. The series win over Pakistan in Pakistan too was fabulous experience.

Any dream of scoring a double hundred?

I would definitely like to score one double hundred. But, my dream is to see my side winning a series and a Test series in particular.
