Ricky Ponting, one of the fighters in Australia's champion team, is delighted about being mentioned as a future captain by his skipper, as he said in an interview.

Were you surprised when Steve Waugh tipped you as the future captain of Australia ?
It was really a pleasant surprise. A great feeling. Nothing is greater than to play for Australia and it would be the best achievement if one can become the captain of Australia.

But a section of people cannot believe that you can become the captain of Australia.
Why?

They feel that you have no control over your temper.
Yes, I am aware of it. I am only 25 now. If you do not have temper, aggression at 25 then when would you have them. I am aware of the fact that I have to control it. Whether I would become the captain of Australia or not, I have to work on it.

Would you consult any psychologist ?
I have already had a session with a psychologist. Normally we consult at least three times a year. In the beginning of the season, in the middle and at the end. I think I have enough time to prepare myself. Anyway, Steve Waugh is doing a good job and he would be around for some time.

Any other plans ?
I have to be consistent with the bat. At the moment, I have an average of 48 in Tests and 40 in one-day internationals. Reasonably well. Yet, I would like to score more runs. I am happy that I can find a place in both the versions of the game. There is nothing to worry in this matter.

You had three zeroes in three consecutive innings in the one-day series. Were you a worried man?
Little bit. Captain Steve Waugh did not say a word. But our coach Buchanan took me to the nets at Hobart separately. Watched my batting and found it okay. Next match, I got runs. Any batsman has to go through this bad phase. I am happy that I could come out of this phase quickly.

David Boon, a Tasmanian, was a member of the World Cup winning team in 1987. You are also from Tasmania. Did you have any such dream ?
Oh, yes! Boon is my hero. I used to watch Kim Hughes also. I always try to follow them. We should have won the World Cup in 1996. We lost in the final to Sri Lanka. No doubt they played better cricket. But we won the next World Cup on the most deserving terms.
