Hyderabad: Former Hyderabad off spinner Arshad Ayub has had the good fortune of sharing his time with Sachin Tendulkar. The Indian legend comes across as an overwhelming favourite when it comes to commitment to the game and commitment to winning a match for India.

Thatscricket.com met Arshad Ayud in his home town and he willingly expressed his thoughts about the 'Little Master Blaster'. "He is a very good motivator, really very good with the team."

What do you think of Sachin as a player?

I have never seen a man with such commitment. We have played together and as far as I remember there is hardly any other person who gives so much to the game. He actually plays to win. He is got the best of heads on his shoulders. He sets an example for everyone in the world. He is a very hard worker. Even after achieving so much, he still practices hard to achieve more.

What are your impressions about Sachin the person?

As a person, he is a little reserved. But a very good team man. He is a very good motivator, really very good with the team. He likes to lead from the front. He has an excellent temperament, and is very confident in what ever he does. He has that extra confidence which makes him brilliant.

I remember we played a One-day match against Pakistan, in Peshawar. It was an exhibition match where Sachin had just finished hitting two sixers of Mustaq. Abdul Qadir was bowling from the other end and told Sachin exactly in these words, " Chottu usko tho marliya, mujhe nahi marsaktha" (kid, you have hit him for sixes, but you can't do the same with me). Sachin hit three sixers of the next over bowled by Qadir. Such was his temperament.

Which innings of Sachin do you rate as the best?

His best innings was the Test innings that he played against Pakistan at Chennai last year. Even though we lost the Test, I think he played a really good innings. And in One-day Internationals the innings he played against Australia in Sharjah, when India was almost out of the tournament, was the best. He single handedly took India to the final.

Your wishes to Sachin on his Birthday…

He is doing a great job and I hope he continues for at least another 10 years. Many Happy Returns to him.
