Mumbai: Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is undoubtedly a demigod of Indian cricket. This cricketing 'legend' turns 28 on April 24 and emerges as an epitome of humility as he spoke to

Thatscricket.com."It is not for me to talk about it. It is for others to think and evaluate my contribution to cricket," Sachin said when asked about what he thought of his achievements.

Excerpts of the exclusive interview:

What do you feel when you look back at your 12-year-old career?

I am very happy to have already played over a decade. It is really a long period. I have enjoyed my cricket. I always wanted to play cricket and I am happy that I am playing. My dream of playing cricket for the nation has come true.

What have you gained and lost during this period?

I would say that I have only gained during this period. The fact that I have been playing all these years shows that I have only gained. I have put in lot of hard work and cricket has rewarded me.

What do you feel about you contribution to cricket till now?

It is not for me to talk about it. I have done my level best on the ground as a batsman, bowler, fielder and captain. You may say that is my contribution to cricket. Still it is for others to think and evaluate my contribution to cricket. Really it is not for me to tell.

When you embarked on international scene did you ever feel that you would go this far?

At the time of making my debut, I took it as an opportunity to perform and get into the reckoning. I did not create any kind of pressure on myself. I just decided to go and play at my level best. I think I succeeded in that. Then I decided to perform season by season. I have been doing well and being guided by this thought alone I have come this far.

What is the contribution of your wife and family in your stupendous success?

My wife has been very supportive. After every success of mine she told me that there is more to come. She has been encouraging and guiding me all these years. Also without the support of my elder brother Ajit, my parents and every other member of my family it would not have been possible for me to taste success after success in world cricket.

Really I am indebted to all of them.

Your teammates through the years Dravid, Kumble, Kambli, Ranade, your guru (Ramakant Achrekar) and gurukanya (his daughter) Kalpana have spoken highly about you. They have all wished more you success. Do you want to say something on this?

I am thankful to my coach and all my teammates and friends. They have always been helpful to me. They all are my well wishers and have really backed me to perform. I am extremely thankful to them.

The whole nation is saying 'Happy Birthday Sachin!' Would you like to comment on this?

I am well aware about it. Cricket lovers and my admirers all have been praying for me to perform. It is the good wishes of whole country that I have come this far. I am extremely thankful to them. I am touched by their constant support and good wishes. They have really inspired me to perform each and every time.
