England continue to grind out runs

Published: Sunday, December 26, 1999, 5:30 [IST]

Durban: England ground out 54 runs at the cost of one wicket between lunch and tea on the opening day of the third test against South Africa today.

The touring team were 98 for two at tea with captain Nasser Hussain on 36 and Darren Maddy on seven.

England found runs almost as hard to come by as in the opening session, Mark Butcher and Hussain batting with undue circumspection.
