Duck is a term used to describe a batsman who goes on his haunches inorder to evade (keep away from) a rising delivery or a bouncer. Normallywhen a bouncer or a rising delivery is bowled at a batsman he ducksunder the ball, but there are times when the batsman also sways awayfrom the line of the rising delivery.

The term duck is also used to indicate that the batsman has beendismissed for zero runs. The term duck, to indicate zero, has become sofamous that whenever a batsman is dismissed on zero, the televisionpictures an animated duck escorting the batsman back to the pavilion.
