Kingsmead is one of the larger grounds in South Africa, home to the successful Natal Dolphins outfit which won the Standard Bank cup of 2003. The cricketing tradition of the area cannot be doubted, especially when one considers this was the stomping ground of the legendary Pollock family. And in recent times has heralded players such as Jonty Rhodes and Lance Klusener, who have been favourites with spectators across the world.

The track usually has something in it for the quicks early on, but like most of South Africa's pitches, is turning into a batsman's paradise.

Local WeatherHot and humid is the order of the day for Durban, a tropical city on the Indian Ocean. Life for the fast bowlers can be particularly demanding in the stifling atmosphere, which seems a world away from the cool breezes of the Cape. The ground has been used as a training area in preparation for touring high humidity areas such as Sri Lanka.
