Srinath, Debashish Mohanty, Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble all performed with greater confidence and never allowed the Pakistan batsmen to take the upper hand. Only Ijaz Ahmed (54 off 77) looked likely to upset India's plans. But he was lured to loft Kumble into the hands of Dravid at extra-cover (124 for five in 28.3 overs ). However, between the 31st and 41st overs, India was in a terrible spot.

That was the period when Azhar Mahmood and Abdur Razzaq went on a rampage to add 72 runs. But once Venkatesh Prasad broke this stand at 200 (41st over), India regained its grip on the game and sailed comfortably into the laps of Goddess Victory. Azhar Mahmood (67 off 50 balls) played a superb innings, but did not find a suitable partner to deny India this important win. He was the last man out.
