Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) in its efforts to globalise the game is likely to appoint Sunil Gavaskar as its ambassador. A formal announcement is likely to be made by the ICC chairman Jagmohan Dalmiya on March 7.

The ICC also plans to observe April 4 to 11 as 'cricket week' and will organise cricketing activities in the cricket playing countries as part of celebrations.

The ICC also plans to nominate Imran Khan, Asif Iqbal, Ian Chappel, Tony Greig, Barry Richards, Mike Proctor, Ian Botham and Vivian Richards as the other ambassadors besides Sunil Gavaskar.

The role of the ambassadors will be to visit countries where the game needs to be developed and provide suggestions for improving the overall infrastructure.
