Mumbai: Mumbai needed just 52 minutes on Saturday to record a facile eight-wicket victory over Tamil Nadu to enter the Ranji finals for the 38th time on the final day of the match at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai have won this trophy for a record 33 times.

Mumbai, who resumed at 104 for one still needing 63 runs to reach their victory target, went about the job clinically, with Jatin Paranjpe playing some lovely drives and cuts. This was Mumbai's fifth consecutive outright victory this season.

Dighe and Paranjpe, the overnight pair, took their second wicket partnership to 105 before Dighe, trying to clear the mid-off fielder, spooned an easy catch to Kumaran at mid-off, off the bowling of Ramesh. Dighe made 73 runs in a stay of 151 minutes, after having faced 108 balls and having sent the ball to the ropes on 10 occasions.

Paranjpe was the one who hit the winning runs, smashing Ramesh to the straight field for a four. With this win, Mumbai only stamped further their seal of domination over Tamil Nadu, having won 14 of the 15 matches they have played so far.
