'Steve-da' visiting Kolkata to help kids

Kolkata: Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh will arrive here on Wednesday on a three-day visit to raise funds for destitute children.

He will formally inaugurate the girls" wing of 'Udayan', home for children of leprosy patients at Barrackpore near here. Waugh has been associated with Udayan since the past few years, and is a great favorite of the children, who affectionately address him as Steve-da" (Uncle).

According to the information received from Calcutta Girls Foundation, an NGO which is organizing the visit, the Aussie captain will come here from Johannesburg to participate in a fund-raising dinner, to be held in a city hotel.

Waugh will also auction an autographed cricket bat. He will visit 'Udayan' on April 20 and lay the foundation stone for the girls" wing.

Waugh, who has raised and supplied funds and other material to Udayan" from time to time, will now formally inaugurate the building which has been built through the funds raised by him during this period.
