Chennai: Left-arm Baroda seamer Zaheer Khan, Delhi's stumper Vijay Dahiya and Punjab batsman Youvraj Singh will be the new faces in the 14-member Indian team for the ICC Knock Out tournament to be played at Nairobi in Kenya from October 3 to 15.The five-member selection committee headed by chairman Chandu Borde also gave another lease of life to Mumbai left-hander Vinod Kambli, who had last played in the Singapore tourney last year.
Chandu borde who announced the team at a press conference after a two hour long meeting with other selectors Madan Lal, Anil Despande, T A Sekhar and Ashok malhotra said the composition of the team was encouraging. "We have a lot of confidence in them.
These are the players who will deliver the goods," Mr Borde said. On the choice of the wicket-keeper vis--vis Reuben Paul, he said, "Dahiya can improvise better, Reuben Paul was also discussed."Regarding Sadagopan Ramesh, who has once again not found favour, the selection committee chairman said, "Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar would open the innings. Sriram is a promising youngster and shaping up well."BCCI secretary J Y Lele, who also present, clarified that the administrative manager would be name later. Anshuman Gaekwad has taken over the mantle of coaching from Kapil Dev.
