Wellington: New Zealand top order batsman Matt Horne will miss the Test series in South Africa and doubts remain about the fitness of all-rounder Chris Cairns, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said on Friday.Horne failed a fitness test on the hand he injured in the second Test against Zimbabwe last month, NZC said in a statement. Cairns, who is struggling to make it through the current One-day series which South Africa lead 2-0, is another on the team's lengthy injury list.''He will continue with the side for the current One-day series then we will review the state of his leg injury once that's over at the end of next week,'' chairman of selectors Sir Richard Hadlee said.

Cairns has been bracketed with Scott Styris in a 15-man squad for the Test series. All-rounder Chris Harris, batsman Roger Twose, pace bowler Geoff Allott and wicket-keeper Chris Nevin - all billed as One-day specialists by NZC - were not named in the squad and will return home after the One-day series.Their places will be taken by new caps batsman Hamish Marshall and pace bowler Andrew Penn, along with pace bowler Kerry Walmsley and batsmen Mathew Sinclair and Mark Richardson.

New Zealand Test squad: Stephen Fleming (captain), Mark Richardson, Craig Spearman, Hamish Marshall, Mathew Sinclair, Craig McMillan, Nathan Astle, Adam Parore, Chris Cairns (or Scott Styris), Brooke Walker, Paul Wiseman, Andrew Penn, Kerry Walmsley, Daryl Tuffey and Shayne O'Connor.(c) Reuters Limited.
