New Delhi: In a startling disclosure, the CBI's inquiry report on match-fixing, made public on Wednesday, has revealed that big-time punter of Delhi Rattan Mehta, who is extremely close to the entire Pakistani team, had taken opinion on matches from star players like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saeed Anwar and had presented them 'small gifts' on a few occasions.Apart from these, the report also names former England captain Alec Stewart, swashbuckling West Indies left-lander Brian Lara, Australian opener Mark Waugh his former teammate Dean Jones, ex-Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga and his deputy Aravinda de Silva, former New Zealand stylish opener Martin Crowe, former Pakistan captain Salim Malik and disgraced former South African captain Hansie Cronje. The 162-page CBI inquiry report quotes Rattan as telling the investigators during his interrogation that the Pakistani team visited his restaurant ' Mini Mahal' when they last toured India in 1999.''Rattan is on friendly terms with many members of the Pakistan team. He met Javed Miandad sometime in 1994-95. Among the present players, he is intimate with Akram, Younis, Inzamam and Anwar. He had taken the 'opinion' of Pakistani players on a few occasions. He had also given them 'small gifts', the report noted.About bookie Tipu Kohli's statement that Rattan had fixed a Pakistan team in a match during a series in Sri Lanka in 1997, the punter told the interrogating team that Tipu Kohli was maligning him since they had a fight over some financial matters. However, he admitted that on some occasions, he had stayed at the same hotel as the Pakistan team.Rattan, who is in betting business since 1990, denied that he had any prior knowledge of India not enforcing the follow-on during the Ahmedabad Test in 1999. At present, he bets with Hans Kumar Jain, Poley and Vikas Sabharwal - all bookies of Delhi. He stated that he was on ''very friendly'' terms with Ajay Jadeja for the past many years. Jadeja had visited his restaurant. But the former cricket captain, according to Rattan, had not fixed any matches for him. Jadeja, however, did provide 'judgment' on matches sometimes. UNI
