Colombo: Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga, reacting to being named in an official Indian report on match-fixing, said on Wednesday that he had never been offered nor accepted a bribe. ''I have had no dealings whatsoever with any bookmaker or been offered or accepted any bribe from any bookmaker or any other person at any time,'' Ranatunga told Reuters, reading a prepared statement. The Central Bureau of Investigation report released on Wednesday named Ranatunga among nine non-Indian players who had either been offered or paid money by ''big-time punter'' Ajay Gupta.Another Sri Lanka player named, Aravinda de Silva, who still plays for his country, was not available for comment.Ranatunga said he would have informed the authorities if any bookmaker had approached him. Ranatunga retired from the game earlier this year after a career spanning 18 years. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board is holding an emergency meeting and is expected to release a statement later on Wednesday. (c) Reuters Limited. Click here for Restrictions
