Bangalore: A life saving unbeaten century by skipper V V S Laxman (100) and a 84-run partnership with Venka Pratap (26 not out) enabled Hyderabad end the day with 233 for two in their second innings against Karnataka as their South Zone Ranji trophy league match ended in a tame draw here on Saturday.Hyderabad forced to follow on after being dismissed for a lowly 291 in the first innings in response to Karnataka's first innings total of 545 for nine declared, put up a valiant fight to enable the team split points with the home team, which was out to take revenge for the loss they suffered last season.Resuming the final day at 15 for no loss the opening pair of Daniel Manohar (49) and Nand Kishore put up 95 runs for the first wicket before the former was out caught brilliantly at short leg by Rowland Barringtoin off Sunil Joshi (79/1).Laxman joined Nand Kishore and the pair made scoreboard move briskly adding 70 runs for the second wicket. However, the partnership did not last long as Nanda Kishore was dismissed by Anand Yalvigi who took a brilliant return catch (149/2). Playing an captain's innings, in an effort to save the game, Laxman scored his 19th century facing 115 balls hitting eleven hits to the fence besides hitting a huge six. Play was stopped after both the captains agreed to call off the match after nine mandatory overs were bowled. Hosts Karnataka gained five points by virtue of their first innings lead. Visitors Hyderabad had to be content with three points.UNI
