Indore: The Zimbaweans who are without their captain Heath Streak and spin bowler Brian Murphy would like to begin on a positive note as they take on the National Cricket Academy XI from Wednesday.Zimbabwe will be led by vice-captain Guy Whittal in the absence of Streak, who will be arriving in Indore on the second day of this match. The tourists would be looking to see their batsmen get into some sort of form, especially their younger players like Douglas Marillier and Stuart Carlisle.Meanwhile, there is a lot of stake for the National Cricket Academy XI as many of the players are knocking on the selectors doors ahead of the first Test against Zimbabwe in Delhi from November 18.
Their captain Reetinder Singh Sodhi, who had been given a raw deal by being kept out of the playing 11 in the Irani trophy match last month will have a chance to prove himself. Mohammad Kaif also will be wanting to prove a point to the selectors after going to Sharjah as a replacement for Dravid and then being left out of the Test squad. The other players wanting to impress include young wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra of Rajasthan. This youngster, who according to the selectors has a bright future ahead, will be looking to break into the Indian team.
The bowling will be in the hands of Fazal Mohammed of Kerala, an yet unknown fast bowler, but who according to the pundits has it in him to come good at the highest level. Off spinner Sarandeep Singh after his good performance in the Irani trophy match would be once again looking to impress the selectors.
