Dhaka: Bangladesh are all set to enter the arena of Test cricket nations. Having been granted the status of a full fledged member in June this year, Bangladesh prepare to meet India in their first, historic Test at the Bangabandhu Stadium from Friday.Bangladesh captain Naimur Rahman is well aware of the onerous task that the players have given the fact that India are definitely the better side at least on paper. ''We have not played a Test match so far. The Indians have batsmen like Saurav, Sachin and Dravid who are at the moment among the world's best. Not only are they vastly experienced in Test matches, their bowling strength is also very good. Moreover, the inclusion of Srinath has given the team an extra edge,'' the Bangladesh skipper said.''We would be happy if we can force a draw or can take the match to the fifth day. We have fully utilised the facilities we have to prepare ourselves for this historic match. I hope we would be able to give a good account of ourselves.''Rahman said that the final line up would be known after the team meeting on Thursday night. He said he would give more emphasis on batting as he felt it would be indeed difficult for Bangladesh to bowl India out twice in this match. Moreover, it would be an uphill task for the Bangla bowlers to bowl against players like Sachin and Saurav, he said. Commenting on the wicket, the Bangla skipper said, ''It is a batting wicket which is likely to take a little turn from the third day.'' According to cricket pundits here, Sharnyar Hossain and either of Mehrab Hossain and Javed Omar will open the innings while Aminul Islam, Habibul Bashar and former Bangla cap skipper Akram Khan would come down the order. The skipper would come at number six and would be followed by Al Shahriya and wicket-keeper Khaled Masud. Heibul Hossain and either of the medium pacers Bikash Ranjan Das or Manjurul Islam would open the Bangla attack while the spin department would be taken care of by Muhammad Rafique. Besides, Akram Khan can also bowl slow medium pace while Al Shariya is also an occasional leg break bowler.Asked about their strategy in this match, Rahaman said, ''All of us have to play to our full potential and play for full five days.''Umpires David Shepherd of England and Steve Bucknor of West Indies will officiate. England's Raman Subba Row is the match referee, while Mehboob Rahman and S B Chowdhury (both Bangladesh) will be the third umpire and reserve umpire respectively. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Test match at 09.00 hours (IST).UNI
