Dhaka: Former coaches of the Bangladesh team and an International Cricket Council (ICC) official viewing the Test, were all praise for the Bangla team due to their sterling performance in the first innings of their debut Test. They particularly praised former Bangla captain Aminul Islam, who notched up a magnificent century knock of 145.Legendary West Indian opener Gordon Greenidge, who coached the team when they won the ICC trophy in Malaysia and at the last World Cup in England, said, ''I'm very happy that the Bangladeshi team has been able to rise to the occasion. It is now a reality that Bangladesh is now playing Test cricket.''He reminded the players and Bangla cricket officials that they should dedicate themselves in their respective fields to build Bangladesh into a cricketing strength to reckon with.Former Indian test star Mohinder Amarnath, who coached the team between 1994 and 1995 said, ''I'm indeed very pleased to see that everybody in the Bangladesh team is trying their best. If they can proceed in this way, I'm sure Bangladesh would soon emerge as another cricketing strength in Asia.'' He also felt that Bangla batsmen had improved a lot since his departure. Former Pakistani wicket-keeper, and member of the ICC developmentcommittee, Nasimul Ghani expressed satisfaction that Bangladesh madea flying start in their maiden Test match.''I'm very proud of your batsmen as I was the first person to speak up for Bangladesh's Test status. Initially, I was a bit doubtful whether they would be able to do well against a strong team like India.'' He said that their performance here proved the ICC made a fair decision in awarding Test status to Bangladesh. The nation should now play more of the longer version of the game in domestic engagements for doing well in the Test arena, he added.Commenting on Islam's century, only the third player to score a ton in the debut Test of their country, Greenidge said, ''Though most of the batsmen did well, I especially congratulate Aminul Islam for his fine innings. He played a flawless and mature innings which is very much needed in a Test match.''
