Chennai: Former CBI Joint Director R Madhavan, who was appointed Special Commissioner by the BCCI to look into the match-fixing scandal, on Sunday examined two tainted cricketers Nayan Mongia and Ajay Jadeja besides former physiotherapist Ali Irani, amid speculations that former captain Mohammed Azharuddin would surface here for interrogation. However, the probability of Azhar being quizzed here turned out to be remote, as Mr Madhavan told a private television channel, which contacted him that it would not be possible for him to examine the Hyderabad-based player ''even if he really decided to appear before me.''The second and the final day's examination by Mr Madhavan as part of an independent inquiry ordered by the Board to clear alleged inaccuracies in its report, was conducted amid tight security. The players were taken in through a back entrance to avoid media glare. None of them, Mongia, Jadeja or Irani were allowed to speak to the largebattery of media persons and television crews assembled in the lobby ofa star hotel near the airport. The players themselves had expressed that they did not want to meet the media either before or after the examination.Mr Madhavan, who is to submit his report to the BCCI before its general body meeting on November 29, was scheduled to brief the press later in the evening after winding up his two-day examination. On Saturday Mr Madhavan examined former all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar, who termed the CBI inquiry into the match-fixing scandal as 'rubbish' and ''full of inaccuracies.'' He had also opined that he would be happy if the Madhavan inquiry on behalf of the Board brought out the truth. UNI
