New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday carried out raids at the premises of senior Doordarshan (DD) and Prasar Bharti officials and certain TV companies in connection with investigations into the government channel's alleged bungling in allotment of rights to telecast cricket matches. The raids started in the morning after the agency registered a case in this regard, and are likely to continue. The anti-corruption unit registered the case after being satisfied that there was a prima facie case made out for investigation into the bungling, running into crores of rupees. The unit has gathered certain evidence to substantiate its case. The sources said the national network allegedly sold the TV rights to private firms despite having all facilities to do the work themselves. They said several files of DD pertaining to the telecast rights of 1996 and 1999 World Cup has been scrutinised by the agency and the anti-corruption unit decided that a case be registered and a formal inquiry initiated. The agency will also probe the role of the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) into these allotments.
