ACCs Pepsi Cup from Wednesday

Sharjah: Malaysia will take on Hong Kong in the opening encounter of the One-day cricket tournament for Asia's non-Test playing nations beginning in the United Arab emirates (UAE) from Wednesday.The other six teams taking part in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Pepsi Cup tournament to be played simultaneously in Sharjah and Dubai are: Singapore, Kuwait, Nepal, Japan, Maldives and hosts United Arab Emirates (Uae).The opening match will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.Releasing the draw of the matches at a press conference here, Emirates cricket board (ECB) officials said the eight teams have been divided into two groups with the top two from each qualifying for the semi-final.Group 'A' comprises Malaysia, Singapore, Kuwait and Hong Kong, whilegroup 'B' includes UAE, Japan, Nepal and Maldives. On Wednesday, two matches would be played in Dubai - Singapore vs Kuwait and UAE vs Nepal. On november 16, Japan take on Maldives in Sharjah, while Dubai will host the matches between Malaysia and Kuwait and Singapore and Hong Kong. UAE will take on Maldives in Sharjah on November 17 while Japan clash with Nepal in Dubai on that day. On November 18, Malaysia will meet Singapore in Sharjah and Kuwait take on Hong Kong in Dubai. Maldives will fight it out against Nepal the next day in Sharjah and UAE meet Japan in Dubai.November 20 will be the rest day and the two semi-finals will be played in Sharjah on November 21 and November 22.The final will be held in Sharjah on November 24.The top teams are to join Asia's big four - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - in the Asia Cup to be hosted by Pakistan next year. They will also $ get 100,000 as participation fee for the tournament. UNI
