Bloemfontein: Disgraced former South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje appears to have lost his interest in the game, says his one-time school friend and team-mate Allan Donald. The two are friends again after Donald earlier came out against Cronje for his involvement in match fixing. The Afrikaans weekly 'Rapport' reports that Cronje visited Donald at his Bloemfontein home for the first time since the scandal broke. Donald had earlier said that he would "not be able to look Cronje in the eye again" if he was guilty of being involved with bookmakers in throwing games. "I don't know if we can ever be friends again," Donald, who was very close to Cronje during their playing days together, had said then. Cronje subsequently admitted at the King Commission of Inquiry in Cape Town that he had in fact accepted money and gifts from Indian and South African bookmakers. The United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) have banned him for life from cricket and any related activities. The paper quoted Donald as asking Cronje whether he was still practicing, to which, Cronje had replied: "What for?" Donald said Cronje appeared to have gained some weight, and appeared to be more relaxed and was glad that "the whole issue was now coming to an end"."Hansie visited me and had coffee with me. We did not talk about what has happened to him in the past few months. Those are things which need to be locked up and the key thrown away," Donald told the newspaper. Donald is on the verge of taking his 300th Test wicket when he plays for South Africa in the first Test against New Zealand on Friday in Bloemfontein. He said Cronje had encouraged him to aim for 400 wickets. "Hansie told me I could do it. I should just ensure that I take at least five wickets in every Test that I play in from now on."
