New Delhi: The government is expected to take a decision on Wednesday on the Indian cricket team's proposed tour to Pakistan, slated to begin in late December. After sending the proposal to the government in the third week of October, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been awaiting a nod to go ahead with the tour. An External Affairs Ministry spokesman said here on Tuesday that a decision on the issue was expected to be taken on Wednesday. The BCCI had set November 15 as a sort of deadline for getting the nod from the government to have adequate time to make preparations for the tour. BCCI Secretary J Y Lele had said earlier that the Board needed time to make necessary arrangements and added that it would be difficult to do the needful if the decision was delayed beyond November 15. Doubts were cast on the tour in the light of the present political climate in the sub-continent with relations between India and Pakistan reaching a low ebb on account of Islamabad-sponsored cross border terrorism in the Kashmir valley. The government refused to give permission to the Indian team to play the annual five-match Sahara Cup series against Pakistan in Toronto (Canada) in September following the massacre of Amarnath pilgrims by militants in Kashmir. Last year, the India-Pakistan Sahara Cup matches were not held in the wake of the Kargil War.UNI
