Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced that former Austrlian coach Geoff Marsh has been appointed as the consultant for the junior cricket in India.Marsh, though the best candidate for India's coaching post had backed out when he found the schedule too crowded but has agreed for the consultant's posting and will work in tandem with his senior compatriot Rodney Marsh and National Cricket Academy (NCA) coaches.he has agreed to make more than 10 very brief visits to India annually. Raj Singh Dungarpur, the founding father of the NCA, welcoming the appointment said this would make a world of difference to India's future as Marsh was convinced that India has as good talent as Australia. However, a BCCI official said, the good work may count to nothing if Raj Singh and NCA coaches continue to be on collision course with national selectors. He pointed out the recent incident, when NCA coaches Hanumant Singh and Vasu Paranjpe, who never played Test, tried to impose themselves in the selection meeting for the NCA team that played touring Zimbabwe at Indore last week. There was heated discussion and threats of walk-out on both sides. The BCCI official said that constitutionally it is selectors prerogative to pick sides against visitors. Dungarpur has been also making sweeping remarks lately against selectors for pursuing old players like Robin Singh and ignoring his academy boy Reetinder Sodhi. The former president is still part of BCCI and on Thursday left for Lahore to attend an International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting. Hence it is more than surprising that on Wednesday in a crowded media meet he announced that he was not a fair weather friend and he will never disown players involved in match-fixing. UNI
