New Delhi: Eminent civil rights activist and jurist Rajinder Sachar on Thursday said the Indian government's decision to call off the cricket tour to Pakistan was ''regrettable and uncalled for''.''The cheap explanation about the security of the players islaughable and a made-up excuse,'' Mr Sachar said in a statement here.''Though in India we are concerned with the encouragement at cross border terrorism from the Pakistan side and though there may be some apparently explainable reasons for not entering into the full open dialogue at governmental level on other issues immediately, it is accepted on all hands that visits from both sides, people and sports, is the best way to release the tension between the two neighbours,'' he added.Stating that people-to-people contacts alone could dissolve the hostility between the two governments, Mr Sachar hoped that the Indian government would review its decision and allow the cricket team to go to Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) also condemned the government decision as ''unnecessary, wrong and one inviting isolation from the international community.''To stop trading terrorism between India and Pakistan, it is necessary to further deepen and intensify the co-operation between the countries in the spheres of art, culture and sports and economic trade for prosperity of the two countries be promoted,'' CPI-ML said in a statement.
