Brisbane: Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie will miss the first Test against West Indies starting on Thursday after straining a hamstring last Sunday.''He had a bowl at training on Monday but he pulled up stiff on Tuesday. It was felt he would be a risk over five days,'' Australian Cricket Board spokesman Brian Murgatroyd said on Tuesday.Spin and seam bowler Colin Miller has been dropped from the 13-man Australia squad for the first Test, leaving leg-spinner Stuart McGill to fill the vacancy left by a finger injury to Shane Warne. Warne will miss at least the first three Tests.Western Australian batsman Damien Martyn comes into the squad as 12th man.Gillespie collided with captain Steve Waugh in Sri Lanka in September last year as both attempted a catch. Gillespie broke his leg and Waugh broke his nose. The paceman returned for Australia in a limited-overs series against South Africa in Melbourne in August but strained a hamstring muscle in his right thigh on Sunday while fielding in an interstate match in Sydney.Gillespie said he was keen to return for the second Test starting in Perth on December 1. ''I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated that such a minor thing is keeping me out of yet another cricket match,'' Gillespie told reporters.''I was desperate to play. I had done all the hard work to get back then this little setback comes along, which is just very annoying but there is not a lot I can do.West Indies are expected to name their team on Wednesday. Australia: - Steve Waugh (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Michael Slater, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Brett Lee, Andrew Bichel, Stuart McGill, Glenn McGrath, Damien Martyn (12th man).(c) Reuters Limited.
