Kerala restrict Karnataka to 231 for seven

Kochi: Kerala restricted former champions Karnataka to a modest 231 for seven in their first innings on the opening day of the South Zone Ranji Trophy league match on Wednesday.Karnataka, electing to bat, lost two early wickets with just 49 runs on the board. However, opener J Arun Kumar (69) and Thilak Naidu propped up the innings adding 54 runs for the third wicket. They were again sent on the back foot as medium pacer Tinu Yohanan (two for 52) and left-arm spinner Srikumar Nair (two for 48) struck in quick succession. The seventh wicket pair of B Akhil (45 batting) and Dodda Ganesh (41) added a face saving 108 runs for the seventh wicket to take Karnataka to a modest score.At stumps B Akhil (45) and captain Venkatesh Prasad (2) were at the crease.Sriram, Badani in unbroken stand for TNLeft handed opener S Sriram's unbeaten 92 and his unfinished stand of 91 for the second wicket with another south paw Hemang K Badani (33) enabled Tamil Nadu to score 153 for one against Andhra on a truncated opening day's play in a South Zone Ranji Trophy league tie at Chennai on Wednesday.About 185 minutes of play was lost due to wet ground conditions and the match had to be called off early due to bad light. Tamil Nadu decided to make first use of the wicket after winning the toss. Sriram, who has struck five boundaries and two sixes in his knock so far and Rajat Bhatia (21), gave a good start to the hosts adding 62 runs in 20 overs.
