Dubai: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has appealed to New Delhi toreview its decision on canceling the Indian cricket team's winter tour ofPakistan. In a statement after a meeting in Sharjah, the ACC said that India's tour ofPakistan was in the interest of cricket in the region and will help promoteregional harmony and cooperation.New Delhi had cancelled the tour earlier this month, asking Islamabad tofirst create a "conducive atmosphere" for such exchanges. The ACC meetingwas also attended by chiefs of the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards. The meeting also decided to send a three-member ACC delegation to meetIndian government officials on the issue. The delegation comprisesBangladesh Cricket Board president Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Sri LankanCricket Board president T Sunathipala and Malaysia Cricket Associationpresident and ACC vice-president Tunko Imran."Yes, you can say efforts are still on but again everything boils down tothe Indian government's approval. Whatever the government decision might be,we'll respect it," Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) president Dr Muthiah was quoted as saying in 'Khaleej Times'."The doors for the Pakistan tour may be still open but I'll have to speakto Mr Dungarpur before I can comment further on that," he added. Welcomingthe latest development, the PCB chairman said if Dungarpur had spoken toIndian foreign minister Jaswant Singh, "it's a good development"."Dungarpur felt that it was unfortunate for Asian cricket if the tour iscalled off. I share his views and I always believed that the India tour toPakistan is in the interest of the game," he had told the paper.India Abroad News Service
