Dunedin: The mighty Aussies lived up to their billing in their first outing when they put up a mighty display by trouncing the hapless Otago women's team by 256 runs. Australia amassed 331 for four in their first warm-up game, a record score for the ground. Taking first strike, Australia made maximum use of the opportunity by giving their top order a feel out in the middle. Australia's prolific run getters Belinda Clark and Karen Rolton retired in order to make way for the rest to have a knock. Belinda made 65, while Karen made a brisk 75 off 42 deliveries. In reply the Otago side, which is in the process of rebuilding it presence in the women's scene could only reach 75 for six in 50 overs. The second game may, however witness Australia take on a mixture of their bench strength, some local youths and a few Otago players as most of the Otago players will not be able to play due to examination commitments. Meanwhile, Ireland playing in Hamilton against Northern Districts women, scored a six-wicket victory after restricting the home team to 136 for 8 in 50 overs.
