New Delhi: An independent probe by India's Cricket Board has named the same five tainted players who have been linked to a match-fixing scandal by a federal police investigation, officials said on Monday.Dr A C Muthiah, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the Board's probe also absolved former national coach Kapil Dev of corruption.India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on November 1 named former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, Manoj Prabhakar and stars Ajay Jadeja, Nayan Mongia and Ajay Sharma in the ongoing fixing and betting scandal. The BCCI then ordered its independent probe, headed by a former CBI official, which is scheduled to hand over its 340-page report to the Indian government this week. The Board has summoned the five tainted players in New Delhi on Tuesday to answer questions on their links with India's flourishing but illegal gambling syndicates. The CBI report said Azharuddin had admitted to fixing three One-day Internationals. Disgraced South African skipper Hansie Cronje in a testimony also named the 37-year-old Azharuddin as the man who had introduced him to a Durban-based bookie.Former Test player Prabhakar earlier this year accused Kapil Dev of offering him Rs 2.5 million ($ 54,000) to underplay in a One-day match with arch-rival Pakistan in 1994.Both the CBI and the Cricket Board have absolved Kapil Dev.The five tainted cricketers were banned earlier this month from playing in domestic and international matches, pending further inquiries.
