Margao: Powered by a patient knock of 116 studded with 18 hits to the fence by Tanveer Jabbar and his two fruitful partnership of 101 with Vivek Kolamkar and a 90-run partnership with captain Pravin Amre for the third and fourth wicket respectively brought cheers to host Goa, who posted 261 for 6 against Karnataka by draw of stumps on the opening day of the four day South Zone Ranji Trophy cricket tournament match played at Rajendra Prasad stadium here on Wednesday.Tanveer Jabbar's 116 came off 214 balls in 274 minutes and this is his second century and first of this season.Central ZoneElsewhere in Jaipur, opener Amit Pagnis, who scored a brilliant 86, helped Railways score 208 for 5 at the close on the first day of their four day Central Zone Ranji Trophy cricket match against the hosts Rajasthan.Prahlad Rawat and Sanjai Sahu were batting with 13 and 5 runs respectively at the draw of stumps.Asked to bat first, Railways made a good start as Pagnis and Sanjai Bangar added 74 runs in 25 overs for the first wicket before the latter edged to wicket keeper Rohit Jhalani off medium pacer Sanjeev Sharma for 24 (103 mts, 66 balls, 3 fours). However, they soon lost one more wicket of skipper Abhay Sharma, who was caught by Saket Bhatia also off Sanjeev Sharma after making only 2 runs.Joined by Yere Goud-the top scorer with a century and two half centuries for the side in the season so far, Pagnis batted magnificently as he struck four boundaries in one over of medium pacer Pramod Yadav. He was however, lucky to survive on the fourth occasion as he was dropped by Vineet Saxena at fine leg, when his individual score read only 38. He was given another life, when Jhalani missed an stumping chance off spinner Jai Kumar. He was then batting on 74. Left-arm medium pacer P Krishna Kumar ultimately dismissed Pagnis, who was caught by Nikhil Doru for 86 (244 mts, 191 balls, 11 fours).UNI
