Christchurch: New Zealand recorded a resounding eight-wicket victory over Ireland in a preliminary league match of the Women's World Cup 2000 at the BIL Oval on Friday.Ireland elected to bat on winning the toss to be bundled out for 99 49.4 overs. Haidee Tiffen and Catherine Campbell shared the bowling honours by claiming two wickets each. Caitriona Beggs top scored for Ireland on 31 runs off 105 balls with one four.New Zealand raced away to 102 for two in 24.5 overs with opener Paula Flannery unbeaten on 49. Paula and Anna O'Leary were involved in a 57-run partnership for the first wicket, which set the tone for the hosts' victory.Paula and Rebecca Rolls were involved in a 38-run first wicket partnership as New Zealand chased an easy target.
