Perth: The management of the West Indies cricket team touring Australia have asked for a batsman to replace the injured Shivnarine Chanderpaul. A team spokesman said here on Saturday the player to be chosen would be decided by the West Indies selectors, in conjunction with team coach Roger Harper and captain Jimmy Adams. Chanderpaul's movements will be decided within the next 24 hours, he said. Chanderpaul, 26, who has played in 46 Tests and is one of the side's most experienced batsmen, was a late withdrawal from the ongoing second Test against Australia. He has a stress fracture of the left foot, an injury team management believe will sideline him for six weeks, ruling him out of the remaining three Tests and even threatening his participation in the One-day series against Australia and Zimbabwe starting January 11.Copyright @2000 AFP.
