Chennai: Fine half centuries by J Arun Kumar (58), G K Anil Kumar (59) and wicket-keeper Thilak Naidu (54 not out) helped Karnataka score a facile 87 run win over Goa in the K Subbiah Pillai South Zone Limited Overs cricket tournament on Friday.Electing to bat first, Karnataka amassed 260 for five wickets in 50 overs, which proved too much for the Goans who were skittled out for 173 runs in 43.5 overs. The Goans were never in the hunt as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Barring skipper Pravin Amre (50, 80 balls 5x4, 1x6) and Tanveer Jabbar (32, 34 balls, 5x4) none of the other Goan batsmen made any worthwhile contribution. Karnataka medium pacer Dodda Ganesh started the rout getting rid of opener Satyajit Medappa and hastened the end picking up three wickets in his second spell, including two wickets of his last two balls in his 10th over. Ganesh finished with figures of four for 41. He was ably assisted by medium pacer Mansoor Ali khan and left-arm spinner Santosh Vadeyaraj, who picked up two wickets apiece.Earlier, Karnataka batsmen made merry by plundering the mediocre Goan attack. There was no big partnership, but the top batsmen chipped in with useful contributions. Apart from the three half centuries, B Akhil used the long handle effectively to score a brisk 31 off 22 balls. For Karnataka this was their second win in three matches, while the Goans were made to eat the humble pie for the third time in succession.
