Mumbai: Asia has one of the best sports library, the Dr H D Kanga library, will celebrate its golden jubilee with more books and symposium next week.Ajit Wadekar, vice president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which houses the library, told media on Friday that after Kanga's death in 1945 his friends and well wishers decided to perpetuate his memory with books and for that purpose Rs 6,500 were collected. Today it is only the second library in the world to have the entire set of Wisden cricketers Almanac (cricket bible) from 1864 plus over 12,000 books on sports some of them very rare, he added. The library has been a boon for decades for research and reference, which authors and journalists need. Over the years it has also provided its members (public) the facility to read expensive foreign sports books and magazines, which otherwise only the rich could afford. The library was first housed in a corner of Brabourne Stadium and shifted to Wankhede Stadium in 1975.
