Karachi: English cricket sponsors Vodafone on Monday announced a five-year extension of their contract with additional bonuses for each win.The mobile phone manufacturer will continue to sponsor the England team until the end of the 2005 English season, the company said in a statement released on the last day of England's tour here. The new contract from Vodafone, which has sponsored English cricket since 1996, is worth 12 million pounds ($ 17 million) not including bonuses, and will come into effect from October 1, 2001.The deal covers Tests and one-day internationals, the England "A" and women's team, as well as various promotional programmes."Vodafone's support has enabled vital funding of new initiatives and existing programmes which will help English cricket to compete at the very highest level over the next few years," said company commercial director Tim Black.England improved their international rankings last summer by beating Zimbabwe in one of two Tests and then the West Indies 3-1, their first win over the Caribbean giants for 31 years.Copyright AFP 2000
