New Delhi: Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Uma Bharati on Wednesday said the government is proposing some changes in provisions of law to incorporate issues like match-fixing, which took Indian cricket by storm in the past few months.''Changes in law will have to be made definitely. Some suggestions have been made to the law ministry,'' Ms Bharati told reporters after meeting the members of the ICC team which is here in connection with investigations into match-fixing, particularly involving some foreign players whose names had come up during the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry. ''There is no clarity in law on such an issue (match-fixing) as nobody visualised that such a thing could ever happen ... It is like the law is silent on a foreigner becoming the prime minister of the country. Now the time has come to incorporate the necessary changes in law,'' the minister said adding that she had written a letter to the Law ministry recently.Ms Bharati said next Monday she would have a meeting with officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which would be followed by other sports federations to stamp out the scourge (of match-fixing). She described the meeting with the ICC team as ''pure courtesy'' call. ''We did not discuss the match-fixing issue,'' she added.Ms Bharati described as ''slip of tongue'' her recent statement in Bhopal that she was not satisfied with the Law Ministry. ''I withdraw my remarks. It was a slip of tongue,'' she said. UNI
