Adelaide: Australia's top cricket official on Friday said that Australia were unlikely to adopt some of the more radical proposals tabled by the South African inquiry into match-fixing.Australian Cricket Board (ACB) chief executive Malcolm Speed said he had read the report but believed some of the suggestions, which include tapping players phones and forcing them to take lie detector tests, could be in breach of Australian laws.Speed also rejected a South African proposal that traditional five-match Test series should be reduced to three games to eliminate dead ''rubbers'', considered more vulnerable to match-fixing. "That is an over reaction,'' Speed said. ''I don't believe there is any less intensity in a five-Test series than a three-Test series.''The list of South African proposals were announced on Thursday by Judge Edwin King, who was appointed in June to investigate match-fixing when national captain Hansie Cronje was sacked after admitting taking money from bookmakers.Among the proposals put forward by King were that players should be schooled in fair play and encouraged to blow the whistle on any teammate and the establishment of a players' ethics committee. He also recommended players should be responsible for disclosing gifts above a value yet to be fixed and should be counselled about the dangers when on tour.''There are a number of recommendations in the report that are already in place in Australia and some others that seem like a good idea, like the ethics commission,'' Speed said.''There are also some that are inappropriate...but we will look at them all and see which ones might be appropriate to us.''
