Hyderabad: Nearly two months after being served a notice to join duty, former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin on Friday informed his employers State Bank of India (SBI), stating that he was sick and not able to report to duty.SBI chairman Janki Ballabh told reporters that they would look into the matter and were in no hurry to persuade things on Azhar, indicted by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Special Commissioner K Madhavan in the match-fixing scandal."It is a routine administrative affair to issue a notice to players, not in the national or regional squad to report for duty and we had done the same," Mr Ballabh, who was here to launch the SBI Gold Deposit scheme, said.Asked if any action would be taken in wake of corruption charges against a public servant, he said, "We have received no such direction from any competent authority. "He continues to be our employee and unless we receive any communication from any competent authority our service rules do not authorise us to take any action," he said."It is only after we receive any such communication that we proceed in accordance with our own service rules before taking any such action," Mr Ballabh said adding that thay would treat Azharuddin like any other employee. The SBI chairman however, ruled out any change in their recruitment policy in wake of the match-fixing scandal.
