Chandigarh: Over 1,000 school children on Tuesday showed their love for cricket as they marched for two kilometres to convey good wishes to the country's women cricket contingent for the Women's World Cup championship beginning in New Zealand on November 29.

The children greeted the women's team, presently undergoing a rigorous training here, by holding banners, which said 'Repeat 1983 men's team performance', 'Good Luck India' and 'Ab Ki Bari, Cup hamari',. Haryana finance minister Sampat Singh, presiding over the function at the sprawling lawns of the Sukhna Lake, announced an amount of Rs 1 lakh for the team.

He also presented momentoes to the team members and coach Sudha Shah. The other countries competing in the Women's World Cup include World Champions Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa and Ireland.
