Dubai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) denied that they pulled out of a three-nation tournament in Malaysia because Pakistan were scheduled to take part in it, saying time constraint did not permit the team to participate.''We refused the invitation from the Malaysian Cricket Association not because Pakistan are one of the opponents but because of time constraints,'' BCCI secretary J Y Lele told 'Gulf News'.''The invitation from the Malaysian Cricket Board sought our team's availability to participate in a tournament this month-end and we wrote back to them saying we will not be available,'' he said.''In fact, the invitation had only a mention about Bangladesh as being one of our opponents,'' he added.Malaysian Cricket Board president Tunku Imran confirmed Mr Lele's statement, saying, ''We sent individual invitations to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is up to the countries to accept our invitation as our objective was merely to promote cricket in our country''.News reports from Karachi had quoted a Pakistan Cricket Board official as saying that the real reason for India not taking part in the Malaysia tournament was that Pakistan were also supposed to participate in it.UNI
