Australia continue to top Test ratings chart
Jan 06, 2001, 13:40 Hrs (IST)
The 5-0 sweep over West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday firmly placed Australia on top of the chart in the Test Cricket Rating Services. South Africa took the second spot, while India were placed sixth.
Australia equalled the third highest rating by any team in the history of Test cricket set by Sir Vivian Richards' West Indians in May 1989. Only Lindsay Hassett's Australians in 1951/52 and Richards' West Indians in 1986-87 have held a higher rating.
West Indies retain fifth place in the ratings, but their lead over sixth placed India has been cut by two-thirds to just 14 ratings points.
