Gandhidham to host Wills Trophy one-day tie
By Suresh Parekh
Jan 11, 2001, 18:00 Hrs (IST)

Rajkot: After successfully hosting the Ranji trophy match between Mumbai and Saurashtra last month, the Kutch District and Rural Cricket Association received a boost when the Saurashtra Cricket Association decided to allot the prestigious Wills Trophy tie between Madhya Pradesh and Delhi to Gandhidham. The match will take place on February 8.

"This is indeed a good news for us," the Kutch association secretary Rajendra Jadeja said. "We hardly got a month to host the match, but we were all determined to upgrade all the facilities upto the mark. With the help of IFFCO, we managed to host the important match successfully and even Internationals like Vinod Kambli, Samir Dighe and Wasim Jaffer were all praise for the venue and facilities available here," he added.

"We will be able to grab country wide attention by hosting the Wills Trophy tie. In future, we can hope to host a three-day match against a visiting side. We are in the process of upgrading the facilities including constructing a new pavilion," association vice-president Anil Sharma said.

"If we get some financial support then we may progress better and faster. I hope the cricket loving public and businessmen will not disappoint," he added.

Incidentally, Rajkot will hosting a One-day International match between India and England under-19 on February 8. Rajkot will host the Duleep Trophy tie between West Zone and North Zone from February 1.
