Chittagong: In his long career as a Test cricketer, Kapil Dev must have played a million drives, but none of them would compare to the one he unleashed during the Pro-Am of the inaugural Rs 10-lakh Bhatiary Open Golf on Saturday
At the par-72 Bhatiary Golf and Country Club, the former skipper of the Indian cricket captain, let loose a Herculean effort of 326 yards to easily win the 'longest drive' competition. The drive became the talking point of the pro-am, even overshadowing the victory of Yusuf Ali and his team of Raiyan Rab, Ilyas Rasul and Inamul.
The winning team tallied 14-under 130, three strokes better than the runner-up team led by pro Rahul Ganapathy and comprising amateurs Lt Col Mustaba, Zulfiquar Ali Khan and Nizam Ahmed.
The tournament, which was the first ever professional golf event in Bangladesh, ended with approximately half a million lights decking up the 18th fairway and the entire clubhouse.
