Mumbai: Basheer Sheikh, driver of former Indian captain Ajit Wadekar, was beaten up by unidentified persons this morning at Worli in Central Mumbai.
Mr Wadekar is contesting the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) election for the president's post against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar scheduled on January 19.
Mr Wadekar said, ''Basheer was accosted by two persons who asked him in marathi 'tuza boss election contest karto kai (so your boss is contesting election)' and beat him up."
''When he came to my house, his face was swollen and nose was bleeding profusely,'' the former captain and coach said.
Basheer's brother has lodged a complaint with the Worli police. Basheer has been admitted to a hospital for treatment, Wadekar said.
