Aussie co to handle Waugh's interests
Jan 18, 2001, 11:20 Hrs (IST)
Sydney: Australian captain Steve Waugh, who is riding a new high of 15 Test victories on the trot with the 5-0 sweep against the West Indies, has signed with TEAM-Duet, a Sydney-based management company, to represent his commercial interests.
The move of Waugh comes ahead of Australia's much awaited tour of India. The Australian captain considers the tour as the ultimate test for his side to be named as an all-conquering squad. The Australians haven't won against India in India since 1969.
Waugh wants to set this record right and prove to the world that his bunch of cricketers - already crowned the One-day kings - are the best in the longer version of the game too.
According to an official press release from the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), TEAM-Duet will handle Waugh's endorsements, sponsorships and other activities in Australia as well as in the other Test playing nations of the world.
"This is an exciting challenge for us. Steve Waugh is admired and respected throughout the world, a man with incredible focus and commitment to excellence, and we look forward to sharing some of his ever demanding workload," TEAM-Duet chief executive Robert Joske said.
