Surat: A record partnership between V V S Laxman, who scored a swashbuckling double century (217), and skipper Rahul Dravid (188), helped South Zone reach 595 for four declared in their first innings on the third day of the four-day West Zone Duleep Trophy Match being played at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium here on Sunday.South Zone resumed the day's play with their overnight score of 296 for two and added 299 runs on Saturday and declared their match immediately after tea break with their first innings lead of 219 runs.The West Zone, who started the second innings, lost Connor Williams at 43 when Sriram caught him at second slip off Ashish Kapoor in the last over of the day. He faced 68 balls and had six boundaries. The other opener, skipper Nayan Mongia, was not out at 21 when stumps were drawn for the day.The third wicket partnership between Laxman and Dravid of 409 runs became a new record of any wicket in the history of Duleep Trophy matches.
